It started with my wife, Sandra! We were driving some summers back, off of the Nerepis River in Grand Bay, New Brunswick when she pointed out this container home complex right on the St. John River. They were stacked on one another and formed a great open courtyard overlooking the water. The seed may have been planted that day when I saw that image.
See, my wife is from St. John, New Brunswick in Canada and we visit that area every summer. Well, up until the pandemic started. Her sister and brother-in-law have a great spot on the St. John River. That is where that image became a working thought. They have some land and the sisters and family are tight, like I find many Canadian families. I thought of putting something small on their land. Problem was they didn’t know and I knew nothing about the subject.
Well, Dreaming is fun and that is why we all love to escape…DREAM ON! It was the following year that the pandemic hit the world. My partner and I have been running a busy Columbus, Ohio based remodeling company for 5 years and we have been banging nails for over a quarter of a century. Tom and I. Tom is my partner and family friend – we were in the beginnings of the unknown that the coronavirus was about to bring. Ironically, people started to be home more and finding a need for more space and better utilization of space, like offices, work desks and multifunctional great rooms. Our minds started to shift during these early moments of 2020.
Our business was doing great and we were navigating the protocols that the virus had caused, when one day Tom and I drove up to Ann Arbor, Michigan and looked at a trailer for a tiny home build. It kind of all happened like that fast! We became experienced remodelers with talented guys and super contacts in the trades, what we were about to embark on was a journey that was to teach us many things, not all building homes related.
Watch for more episodes of our story with you. Some funny, at times stressful, but never dull journey through the tiny home world and its communities. We will tell you what we have learned and be there if we can help you on your journey of tiny living.
